Allowance Wisdom

Kids nowadays are more sophisticated than we were. We need to openly teach them about money.  Especially now with the world-wide financial challenge, we need to explain the concepts of how things are bought and sold, and how money plays a part in the world.  Most importantly, I think that we need to explain how your personal finances fit into the world and specifically in your and their lives.  Once they see how you deal with money, they will get an idea of how they can deal with it.

Holidays: A Time for Change

Many traditions are brought back every year around this time. Some are good and others just produce stress and suffering. Often the gathering of family and the built in stress of the holidays add up to some bad times, and numerous problems. more…

It Often Takes a Crisis to Break Through

“It often takes a crisis to break through our usual models of the world. A crisis is a gift, an opportunity, and perhaps a manifestation that life loves us, by beckoning us to go beyond the dance we presently perform.”

New Years in July

You’ve heard of Christmas in July.  Well, consider New Years in July too.  July is the beginning of the second half of your year.  It’s a great time to check in to see how you’re doing on your goals from January.  If you didn’t choose to set goals in January, this is your chance to start your year over.  July is a fresh time of year. What to do if Your Date Isn’t Working Out

What do you do when you begin dating and after a few dates you realize that it’s not working out? The common thing is to “do nothing.” That is if you’re a man, you stop calling or e-mailing. If you’re a woman, you stop taking calls or answering e-mails. That can be seen as callous. However, it may be humane as well. If the truth were to be told, they might say, you’re too old, too over weight, not attractive enough, not smart enough, not successful enough, etc. So as mom used to say, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. So blame mom. Of course the recipients of the “silence” are left wondering, “What happened?” more…

Healthy and Successful Fights to Have in Relationships

There is a lot involved in deciphering the man/woman-speak involved in relationships, but during an argument, it’s especially important for us to understand as much as possible. more…

Hope

As I sat on a plane going to Atlanta, I felt the sadness that has been welling up inside of me thinking about the funeral of my dear niece Sara.  I just spoke to her less than a week before on the phone.  We actually had a longer than normal conversation, lasting almost a half hour.  I detected nothing in her voice to lead me to worry about her. more…

The Ex or not the Ex

There is sometimes an attraction that lingers after breaking up from an ex-significant other. The question is to decide whether to act on the feelings or not. It really depends on several factors. One thing to consider is how long has it been since you broke up? Are you or your ex involved with anyone else? What does this mean to each of you? Has anything changed since you broke up? Did you change? Did they change? How? Was there therapy or counseling involved? Do either of you want to make it work again? If so is it both of you? Having only one of you interested in making it work, won’t work. more…
